Atomic Boom
After a long year in high school learning about the atomic bomb, I had forgotten all about it. I remember that was the only topic I was actually interested in during History class. The story behind it is so sickening and traumatic, which is why that is the only reason I remember it. As a couple years have gone by, I haven't put much thought into it. After the past two weeks in my English class, we talked on the subject. Our teacher showed us a video of a atomic bomb. It bombed a whole town with people and families living in it. It is so hard to watch these kind of things because we are people at the end of the day. The families with little children are not involved in anything at all, but they have been hurt and it ruined their life forever. These kids have stains on their skin, they have medical issues now, and so much more.
We also talked about in class how movies and shows connected with the bomb in this time after to become distracted A show called "Happy Day's" become very popular around this time. Another movie that became popular was called "The Breakfast Club." This show and movie were two entertaining types of distractions that Americans came about to ignore what just happened. Fashion came back and women were wearing clothes that never would have been appropriate to wear before. They advertised high school as the best time ever. This was also shown through entrainment. Life was set up almost like a movie and this was a smart way for people to "forget" what was happening in the real world.
I picked the pictures below for multiple different reasons. The image on the top is a picture of the atomic bomb. I like that the picture is in black in white because it shows it's time that was taken place. The picture in the middle is a super detailed picture. It shows the length of damage this bomb does. It shows through the smoke in the clouds and this picture would be from a person's point of view that was sitting up in a plane. Notice how far away the picture is being taken from as well. The last picture shows a mom after the bomb had happened with her children. I think this picture speaks out for the mother because people will instantly feel sympathy for her because she is a mother who looks worn out and tired with two kids.
The history and the idea of the atomic bomb is truly horrifying and traumatic. I remember being in social studies class back in high school talking Hiroshima bombing and they showed our class a video of the bobbing and the aftermath and it was truly horrifying. These bombing and massive tragedies they've caused is something society forgets about daily.
